Work starts on the restoration of the island in the middle of the river — alongside preparation for a new bridge. Several tonnes of stone and topsoil wheelbarrowed across.
"Restoring the island,
stone by stone."
Island restoration is one of the more rewarding — and physically demanding — jobs we take on. With no direct vehicle access, everything has to be transported by hand: wheelbarrow loads of stone, topsoil and materials carried across to the island, load after load, until the groundwork is properly established.
Alongside the island itself, work also commenced in preparation for a new bridge — a long-anticipated addition that will transform access and open up the surrounding landscape. The bridge has since arrived, and it was well worth the wait. Seeing it in place marks a real milestone for the project.
Work continues on the island with careful attention to drainage, ground stability and longer-term planting potential. This kind of restoration project requires patience and a methodical approach — but the results, both practical and aesthetic, make it thoroughly worthwhile.
