The Challenge: A Leylandii Hedge Left to Its Own Devices
We were called in to help a local gardener tackle a Leylandii hedge that had been neglected for a good few years. Leylandii is one of the fastest-growing conifers in the UK — capable of adding a metre or more of height every year when left unchecked. What starts as a tidy boundary feature can quickly become an imposing wall of dense green.
By the time we arrived on site, the hedge had grown well beyond its intended height, casting deep shade and pressing hard against the property boundary. The work required careful planning: reduce the height substantially while maintaining the structural health of the plants and leaving clean, level lines throughout.

The Approach: Precision Over Speed
Hedge reduction on overgrown Leylandii demands a methodical approach. We worked systematically along the full length of the hedge, bringing the top down to a manageable and sustainable height, then cutting back the sides to restore a clean, uniform profile.
The results speak for themselves. The hedge is now at a height that can be maintained year on year, restoring light to the garden and giving the property its boundary back — without losing the privacy and structure a good hedge provides.
